Ally Bank

Principal UX Specialist (2020)

Sr. UX Specialist (2018)

Info Architect (2015)

Atando AI

2017-2018ish

Sole product designer responsible for all Paperspace product experiences, from high level multi-year strategy to user research to day-to-day pixel work.

Product designer filling role of IA, design systems, visual design, content strategy, design / product strategy, interaction designer.

Served as UX consultant on clients: AARP, Ad Council, MW Industries, Project Beacon, Bloomberg

Project work entailed research and discovery, sketching, design thinking workshop facilitation, comparative landscape reviews, heuristic evaluations, design system creation, management, and documentation, business canvas development, stakeholder interviews, user interviews, pitch sessions, and more. Generally what can be considered day-to-day consulting work.

Six years is a long time to summarize but here’s a try, starting from the beginning:

In the role of information architect, I was worked on projects primarily concerned with navigation and interaction with content. I worked on a team that redesigned the global nav of ally.com, on a team that redesigned the Do It Right blog, worked on the SSO integration of TradeKing (now Ally Invest) into the bank website, and on an experience called WalletWise, which unfortunately was never prioritized for development.

I then transitioned to working on a redesign of the global nav of the Ally Bank/Invest apps (native iOS/Android), which saw the app nav go from a hamburger style to a bottom nav style. At the same time, I worked on Ally’s Alexa skill, which went live in February 2018.

Upon completion of that project, I transitioned to serving as one of two founding members of Ally’s brand new innovation lab. Our team named and branded the innovation lab (now TM Studio), physically built much of the original location furniture, and conducted the first major research effort of the lab, which informed the development of Ally Bank’s savings suite - Savings Buckets, Round Ups, etc.

Upon returning from TM Studio, I served as a senior designer on the native mobile app, where I created a comprehensive design system and component library for both the iOS and Android apps, continued to work on major platform-level projects regarding the navigation, worked on an overhaul of the Zelle money movement experience, and delivered the Status Tracker and the Snapshot Redesign prior to leaving in 2021. I worked independently and on teams of other designers, collaborated closely with engineers, product owners, and leadership, and helped deliver excellent user experiences under challenging regulatory and compliance conditions.

Sing Canary

2016-ish

Lead and sole product designer responsible for all the entirety of the DO GenAI Platform from zero to GA (with support from a senior designer for a one-month sprint). Research, conceptualization, IA, product design, prototyping, concept testing, visual design, and becoming the de facto AI UX expert at DO. To call this a “project” is the understatement of the century. The GenAI Platform is a five-product platform that encompasses existing DO products (storage, compute, serverless functions) and brand new products, with brand new product experiences DO has never done before, kicked off in June 2024 and made available to 500+ users October 2024.

On this platform, users can not only explore industry-leading open source and commercial models in a conversational interface, but build their own AI agent ecosystems - agents able to do RAG via knowledge bases, serverless functions, agent routes. With built-in guardrails, both default and custom, users can go from exploring to deploying their first agent via a free, provided chatbot interface in less than 10 clicks (not that clicks are a good metric for user success and retention, but ya know, compared to AWS Bedrock, it’s pretty good).

I went from minimal GenAI experience to deep knowledge of the GenAI and larger AI landscape, including robust knowledge developed in the UX of model fine-tuning, conversational chat interfaces, AI agentic IDE design, RAG pipelines, agent evaluation benchmarking, and much more.

Prior to joining the Design-Led Engineering team, I served as the only product designer on DigitalOcean’s Marketplace team, where I facilitated design thinking sessions to drive product strategy, delivered day-to-day UX tasks, and collaborated across the org to ensure strategy and deliverables were aligned to business outcomes.
